G E A R S
As a gear head, I've bought too many guitars that I don't really need, and many pedals and amps. Like many other guitar players, I enjoy the expereince of buying guitars, and I had sold many of them too. Here is a list of the main gears that I've used in recording and live performance, and some other stuffs I currently own.
2020 Fender Custom Shop Broadcaster
This 70th Anniversary Limited Edition is a reissue of Fender's 1950 Broadcaster, it is the world's first mass production electric guitar that made of solid wood. Acquired in Dec 2021, it became the main axe for my live performance, and it was used for recording 2 songs in my 2nd album "Kowloon Blues 2".
1994 Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul R4
This 1954 Reissue belongs to a friend of mine who has a real deal 1954 Les Paul, he lets me keep it with me, I am so grateful. Its raw P90 voice became the main sound in my 2nd album "Kowloon Blues 2", it was used for recording most of the songs in the album.
2015 Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul R8
This 1958 Reissue is the first Custom Shop guitar I have acquired, it is a "Japan Hand Selected" version, I had it Peter-Green'd with a Wizz PG out-of-phase pickup set. It was the main axe for live performance, and for recording my debut album "Kowloon Blues and Other Assorted Love Songs".
1999 Gretsch G6136 White Falcon
This pre-Fender made-in-Japan era Gretsch guitar has a 18" wide full hollow body, looks like a Cadillac automobile and howls like a beast. It contributed some rhythm parts in my debut album "Kowloon Blues and Other Assorted Love Songs".
Gretsch Black Falcon Electric and Acoustic
This duo belongs to the studio where I record my albums, I did not bring my guitars when I decided to overdub some parts, so I borrowed them, they can be heard in just 1 song in my debut album.
2002 Bigsby BY-50 Reissue
This rare guitar (right) that made by Gretsch in Japan, is a recreation of a guitar build by Paul Bigsby for Merle Travis in 1948. It belongs to my record producer Barry Tam, I borrowed to record the solo part in 1 song in my 2nd album.
2000 Epiphone '58 Korina Explorer
The 2000 Korean made Explorer is not actually made of korina wood, it has a mahogany body with korina veneer on top, and a maple neck, I had all the pickups, electronics, tuners and hardwares upgraded.
1990's ESP Eclipse
This Japanese made ESP guitar was bought in 1999 when I joined my first band ever. After a lot of modifications, now it has refinished in cherry red and an additional pickguard.
2002 Gibson Les Paul Custom
This is my first ever Gibson guitar, a non Custom Shop, bought in 2005, was my main axe for 10 years. I have done a lot of modifications on it over years, now it has Faber hardware, a pair of Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickup, VIP pots and Luxe cap.
2000's Fender Japan ST-68 Stratocaster
This left-handed Strat was bought in 2005, strung for right-handed player so it is reversed for imitating Jimi Hendrix. I had the electionics upgraded, and the latest modification is changed the bridge pickup to a Tele pickup.
1992 Fender Stratocaster Plus
I found my first blues band with a friend of mine in 2002, he had this Silverburst Strat Plus at that time. He has given this guitar to me around 2010. I had the pickguard changed to a black one.
2009 Danelectro ‘59 Jimmy Page Reissue
The '59 DC is so called a Jimmy Page Reissue since he has used it during his time with Led Zeppelin. This is a hollow bodied guitar made of Masonite, not wood. Given by a friend of mine who has left Hong Kong.
1990's Fernandes Burny MG-115CGR
This single pickup crystal green guitar is made of acrylic, it is one of the signature models of Japanese rocker HIDE, the guitarist of X-Japan. Originally it has an active pickup from Fernandes, I had it changed to Seymour Duncan '59.
Epiphone Zephyr Blues Deluxe
It's a cannot-afford-Gibson version of 1949 ES-5, I have all electronic and pickups upgraded. It has 3 volume control for individual pickup, and 1 master tone control, no pickup select switch.
MJT Partcaster
It is a guitar that was assembled by myself with parts I bought from different manufacturers, the body is from MJT, the neck is from Musikraft. The idea is to combine 2 of my most used guitars recently, the 1954 Les Paul reissue and the 1950 Broadcaster reissue.
1967 Gibson J-45ADJ
This player grade vintage acoustic guitar has several modification and repair from the previous owners, the 1960's Gibson adjustable bridge saddle was changed to a fixed saddle. Its Cherry Sunburst finish has faded, all the wears and weather checks look amazing.
1950's Silvertone Kentucky Blue
This is a budget guitar made for student in 1950's, it don't even have a truss rod. The condition is not very good, It can barely play. I added a Cutis Novak P90 pickup.
2000's Regal RC-2 Duolian
This Indonesian made nickel plated steel-bodied resonator guitar is inspired by the legendary Duolians originally made by National. I added a vintage 1960's DeArmond gold foil pickup.
Yamaha LS6
Concert size acoustic guitars that with solid rosewood side and back are very good for fingering style playing, this is a good one if you only have mid-low budget. I sold it since I bought the vintage Gibson acoustic guitar.
2000's Vineyard
Vineyard is a budget guitar brand, this Dreadnought size guitar is made in Indonesia. Bought it from Nelson Piano Co in 2004, this was my only acoustic guitar for many years, given to a friend in 2020.
Vintage 47 The Mini
This 5 watt octal tube amp made by Vintage 47 is inspired by amps that manufactured before Leo Fender released his first amp in 1948, it has the retro tone, the size is small so I can carry to gigs, it is used for recording most of the tracks in my 2nd album.
Marshall 1962 "Bluesbreaker" Reissue
"1962" is the model number, not the year the amp was produced. It was the earliest amp model that Jim Marshall produced in England, most famously used by Eric Clapton in John Mayall's 1965 album, I tried to nail the sound in my debut album.
Fender The Twin
The Twin is a modern take in the 90's of Fender's 1965 Twin Reverb, it is a 100 watts amp, it is very loud. It breaks up very easily, its crunch tone and reverb can be heard in my debut album.
Fender Excelsior
This 13 watt 1x15" amp is so called Pawnshop Series by Fender, it is inspired by 1940's Valco amps, even it is not actually an octal tube amp, it sounds still very old skool. It belongs to the recording studio, it is used for recording some tracks in my 2nd album.
